Learning Not to Charge Ahead

I thought I lost my first-born child.

My heart stopped. I watched helpless as he ran without looking – his head never turning this way or that. My son charged straight ahead across the street to the bus stop, racing to beat our neighbor there.

He never saw the car coming. My heart skidded with the car. A rapid thump, thump, thump – THUMP, screeching to a full stop. Thinking only of what he would gain on the other side (first in line for the bus), my child ran full-sped into the street…

I’ve returned from New Mexico and had a wonderful time. Please pray the Lord will open the doors He wants to open and close the ones that need to be shut. I’ll be telling you more about my time there in the days and months ahead.

Blessings!

sheep to the right has a new site!

I couldn’t believe it licked me. Well, let’s be honest, I couldn’t believe I was standing in a sheep pasture holding a sheep. Those that know me will know I’m not a huge animal person (read: I prefer to view them from afar with hand sanitizer in my back pocket.) But here I am standing in a field of sheep, holding a baby lamb, getting LICKED in the face.

You just never know how God is going to stretch you. When my husband Alan suggested we re-do my website (he is my designer) and take pictures with sheep, I was a little skeptical I’ll admit. But to my surprise (and the surprise of many others) I actually liked that sheep! It was adorable. And I don’t even think I used sanitizer afterward. ;)

So, here it is! The relaunch of sheep to the right. I loved my other site, but it was time for a new look. My little sheep friends are still around here and there. Please scroll around, click on my new pages, and let me know what you think. If you get my posts in email form, please click HERE to visit the new site.

Tomorrow, I’m headed to New Mexico for a Christian writer’s conference to pitch my book sheep to the right. The proposal is finally ready! It’s been four years in the making. Please pray for God to continue to use me and my writing for His glory. That’s the real reason for any of this.

To God be the glory,

**A special thanks to Dawn Boyce for allowing us to do a photo shoot with her sheep!

Portable God

A sudden intake of air is followed by a squeal. “Mommy!!!” My baby girl calls my name and her feet do a dance on the mattress of her crib. She runs across the crib and grabs her bear, scooting back to the rail as quick as she can, lifting one arm for me to lift her.

She motions with her other arm wrapped tightly around her coveted animal. “Bear wif us,” she tells me. “Bear wif us.” She repeats herself until I assure her that bear can come “wif us” to get some breakfast downstairs…

And would you allow me to ask for prayer? I’m preparing to go to New Mexico next week for a writer’s conference. I will be taking two book proposals with me. Would you pray for the following requests:

-Baby Grace is sick today. Please pray I am able to finish all preparations for the trip.

-Pray the rest of the family, including me, will stay healthy.

-Pray for God to go before me and prepare a way.

-Pray for His will to be done.

-Pray protection for me as I travel, but also for my family back home.

-Pray for my friend Amy, who is traveling with me. Her son has epilepsy. Pray for noseizures while she is gone.

Thank you sweet friends! I love you!
