The Sparrow

Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.  Luke 12:6-7 NIV

Ever have God show you something over and over again?  Lately, for me it has been “the sparrow.”  I see merchandise with the line from the song His Eye is on the Sparrow.  I read the verses in the Bible talking about it.  Someone just happens to mention a sparrow in casual conversation.  Over and over again.  

A couple of weeks ago, I was cruising through the 70% off table at Belk’s.  You know I love me a good bargain.  (I got it honest.  I swear, my mama can walk in a store, and they just give her stuff.) Anyway, back to my story.  I walked in Belk’s and there sat the cutest little bird.  At $3.00, he was just calling, “Cheap, Cheap!”  So, of course he came home with me.  I found just the right spot in my dining room in a framed shadow box.  Every time I look at that bird I hear, “His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.”  I’ve decided I need something with that written on it to put next to him.  Don’t you love how God sends reminders of His love even on the bargain table at Belk’s?
Listen to the lyrics of this old song and tell me…why do you feel discouraged today?  His eye is on the sparrow and I know He watches you.
Enjoy the video.  Sandi Patty is singing.  Or I should say sanging, cause that girl can sang!  I know when Jesus returns He will ask Sandi to lead us all in How Great Thou Art.  She’s just that good.

Word up!

Word up!  I’m really telling my age.  I’m a child of the 80′s!  Remember that old song by Cameo?  If not, do a little Youtube search.  It’ll all come back quickly.  Wanna know why I’m like “so totally” WORD?  Check it out.  These are all words from my blog.  The bigger the word, the more often it is used.  I found this at Wordle.net  If you have a blog you can do it, too.  


Isn’t that cool?  Can you see who is number one on my blog?  Let’s all give a shout for GOD!  Word.  (I’m going to so drive my husband crazy with the 80′s talk for the rest of the night.  I can feel it.)
I also have to say thank-you to my bloggy friend Peggy for these sweet awards she has so lavishly bestowed upon me.  Peggy is the best.  She is such an encourager.  Peggy, when we get to Heaven, could you please request to be in my cul-de-sac?  I would love a neighbor like you.  If you haven’t ever visited Peggy’s blog, hop on by.  She lives in Mexico!  You’ll surely be blessed.  
And now for the awards.  Peggy has given me the Kind Blogger award.  I’m not sure what kind I am, though.  My cousin used to tell me I had kind hair – the kind on a goat’s back.  Peggy must mean I’m kind-a sheepy.  Thanks, Peggy.  Word.
Peggy has also given me the Friendship Award.  She has been such a sweet friend to me.  Now, I am supposed to pass these totally awesome and rad awards on to other deserving, kind, and friendly people.  
So, here goes…

And because I want to leave you with a little something.  Let’s think a moment about my wordle picture.  What if instead of all the words on your blog, the picture was of the words that came out of your mouth.  (Yikes, some of y’all are sweating now.)  Imagine what that word picture would look like.  Which words would be the biggest on your picture? (I know what mine would be:  COLIN! And it would be in all caps because I’m always shouting it!)  And which words would you wish you could remove?  Tomorrow is a new day!  Let’s get our word pictures in order.  Word!

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun!

Good times, God times!  That’s what kind of fun I had last night.  My girlfriend, Amy, and I drove to Greenville to her old church to hear none other than our most favorite – Lysa TerKeurst. (Lysa, if I knew how to make your name with blinking lights, I would.)  Y’all, it was awesome.  Lysa is one of the most down-to-earth, real deal, gifted speakers I have ever heard.  It was so worth driving two hours in the rain to get there!  (It’s a story I can tell the grandchildren.  ”I had to drive two hours, one way in the rain just to get me some Jesus.”  I can hear it now.)
I just have to share one of the illustrations Lysa gave us last night.  I’m nice that way.  You’re welcome.  She talked about how we all go through yucky things in our lives.  She said those yucky things were like the eggs in a cake.  We need all the ingredients to make the cake.  She said we have dry ingredients like the dry times in our lives.  We have the sugar like the sweet times.  Then we have the yucky stuff, like the gloppy eggs that can make you sick if you eat them raw.  We would love to leave out the yucky stuff in our lives.  Can I get an amen?  But…if we left those yucky eggs out of our cake, we would have a problem – no cake. 
When we add the yucky together with all the other ingredients and add heat, we rise and make something beautiful.  Isn’t that a great analogy?  I will never bake a cake again without thanking God for making something beautiful out of the ingredients in my life.  Last night was such a great time of fellowship and worship, it definitely counts as some sugar.  What a sweet time it was!
Oh yeah, if you are a regular reader of Lysa then you know about “the coat.”  Yes, friends, she had on “the coat” last night.  It’s just as amazing as she.  You gotta love TJ Maxx.

Head & Shoulders


My son cannot reach the shampoo in the shower.  We keep it in one of the caddies that hang over the showerhead, and as tall as he is, his six-year-old body can’t quite stretch that far.  If he gets in the shower before I get the shampoo down, it’s not long before he is calling, “Mooooommmmy!  I can’t reach the shampooooo,” in his loudest sing-song voice…
